Vintage Masonic Serving Plate Ancon, Panama Canal Zone
This vintage serving plate is from the Masonic Hall located in the town of Ancon in the former Panama Canal Zone. The logo on the upper surface has "Masonic Hall, Ancon, C.Z." with the Msonic logo. The lower surface has "Shenango China ; New Castle, PA. ; Made for L. Bsrth & Sons ; New York". My granfather, Lester Bailey, was the head mason in 1934 and he retired from Panama Canal service in the late 1950s. I got this plate when my father passed away in 1994. Therefore, I do not have an exact age for this plate, but I suspect that it is from the period between 1930 and 1960. There is no date on the plate. This plate is massive. It is 15.5 inches long and 11 inches wide. It weighs 3 pounds and 15 ounces without packaging. It is the correct size for serving a large roast or turkey. A very nice artifact from the former Panama Canal Zone!
I do not see any notceable damage. There are tiny flaws in the lines and logo as applied and some very fine scratches on the surface from use, but no cracks or chips, etc.
Most of the plates and China items that I sell are vintage. It should be expected that these items will have some sort of wear or patina unless listed as "mint". Flaws created during the manufacturing process may not be mentioned as these are part of the character of vintage or antique items. These flaws may, however, be mentioned if they cause a structural defect affecting the items integrity. I do provide large photos of each item so that you can see the condition.
